Executive Summary
The German association of statutory health insurance physicians (KBV) and the leading groups of the statutory health insurance funds last week agreed on measures to improve the prevention of intestinal cancer. From July 1, sickness fund members aged 50 upwards are to be given the opportunity to be tested for the disease by an examination of their stool sample for hidden blood. At 56 the patient may choose to undergo a colonoscopy every 10 years, or an examination of their stools every two years.
