Sweden enters the mammography debate

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The ongoing questioning of the value of mammography screening has prompted the Swedish board of health and welfare (SOS) to make its own study of the issue. Last week SOS, together with the Cancer Fund, met with experts from a number of European countries and the US to debate the benefits and disadvantages of breast cancer screening. "In order to take a stand on the mammography question we have to have facts from many different areas, and this is what we achieved at the meeting," said Kenneth Nilsson, chairman of the Cancer Fund's research body.
