Swedish experts support diabetes screening

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Two senior experts from the Swedish national board of health and welfare (SOS) have come out in support of a move to screen people over the age of 40 for diabetes. Professor Carl-David Agardh, from the department of endocrinology at the University Clinic of Malmo, told Dagens Nyheter that the health sector had convincing proof that cases detected by screening could now be treated. A recent US study had also showed that a change in lifestyle was enough to remove the risk of diabetes later in life. His view has been supported by Professor Christian Berne from the Academy Hospital in Uppsala.
