Executive Summary
The Finnish health service is undergoing a major review in order to tackle potential future problems brought on by demographic changes, staff shortages and widening regional disparities in service standards. The evaluation will focus on: funding; staff working conditions and training; the division of labour and co-operation between public and private healthcare; and the assessment and standardisation of healthcare practices. An interim report is already available, based on the recommendations of the evaluation working group, but the final proposals on the future of the health service are expected to be ready by the end of March. They must then be submitted to the national consensus conference for approval.
