Executive Summary
The HELIOS clinics, a private hospitals chain, last week announced an increased turnover of 33% to E563 million ($499 million) for 2001. The HELIOS group acquired three hospitals during 2001, bringing its total number of clinics to 21 and increasing its number of hospital beds by 30% to 6,145. During April last year it gained a majority share in HELIOS Clinic Erfurt, making this the first time a hospital chain had successfully taken a German maximum care hospital into the private sector. In August the group also acquired a hospital in Kitzbuhel, Austria, and has since said that it intends to search for more acquisitions there.
