Executive Summary
Italy has drawn up plans to establish a national network of "centres of excellence in oncology". As Clinica went to press, health minister Girolamo Sirchia and the minister for innovation and technology, Lucio Stanca, were preparing to announce the details of the project, which aims to raise standards of cancer research and specialist care in Italy. The health ministry hopes the initiative will help to "reduce the migration of patients seeking better treatment" through a teleconsulting service. The cancer network will also provide a model for the creation of other specialist healthcare networks.
