Executive Summary
Roche Diagnostics has launched in the UK a fully automated blood test that can help diagnose heart failure. The test, called proBNP, is a quantitative, laboratory-based immunoassay that detects levels of natriuretic peptides in serum and plasma. Natriuretic peptides appear in increased concentrations in the blood of patients with cardiac dysfunction and therefore serve as a biochemical indicator of heart failure, says the firm.
