Executive Summary
A Swedish public prosecutor has dropped the criminal investigation into Baxter International's Ronneby site that produced the dialysis filters that have been linked to more than 50 deaths worldwide. Baxter said the events leading to the recent patient deaths were "unintentional" and, quoting Tommy Clevenhult, the public prosecutor, "a chain of unfortunate circumstances". The Ronneby site halted most of its operations in November, at the same time as the company initiated a global recall of the affected range (see Clinica No 983, p 1).
