Queensland joins federal breast screening initiative:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The Australian federal state of Queensland has launched a population-based public health programme, offering free breast cancer screening and follow-up services to women between the ages of 50-69. Although research has shown this to be the target group for whom screening would be most beneficial, women aged from 40-49 and over 70 may also opt for the service, the Queensland health department said. The "Queensland Health BreastScreen" programme is a regional component "BreastScreen Australia", a joint commonwealth and territory initiative. It operates via a network of 11 fixed-site screening and assessment services, 13 screening-only satellite services and four mobile services. Operating in accordance with national standards and guidelines, it offers screening in over 240 state-wide locations.
