The government of the Spanish region of Catalonia is to provide 628 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), as part of a programme to train almost 10,000 healthcare professionals in the use of this technology. Over the next two years, the Catalan health service (SCS) in Barcelona will fund the devices, at a cost of E1.75m ($2m). The training element, part of a wider first aid campaign, will be funded separately, under an agreement signed recently with Pfizer, worth E1.1m.
