French look into safety of dental amalgam:
This article was originally published in Clinica
Executive Summary
A dental amalgam working group has been set up alongside the national vigilance commission at the French healthcare products safety agency (AFSSAPS). Its remit will be to: report on current research concerning the safety of dental amalgam; and propose an information site and recommendations for people who consider that they have suffered medically as a result of noxious effects of dental amalgam. The group is being set up for a year initially, and its work will remain confidential. France banned all dental amalgams, with the exception of pre-dosed capsules, in May 2001 (see Clinica No 959, p 3) because of concerns of mercury overdosage from dental amalgams prepared with the use of metal alloys and mercury.
