Smith & Nephew's hopes of acquiring Centerpulse without having to outbid Zimmer have diminished. Warsaw, Indiana-based Zimmer, which emerged as a late-stage potential rival bidder on May 20 2003, has eliminated two conditions from its preliminary offer proposal, following the release of confidential documents by Centerpulse for Zimmer to conduct due diligence.
