Executive Summary
The Greek government is pushing for action to prevent and control trafficking in human organs and tissues. If its initiative, published in the Official Journal of the European Union, is taken up and results in new EU rules and penalties, this should help improve confidence in the safety of medical devices that are manufactured utilising human tissues. The initiative with a view to adopting "a Council Framework Decision concerning the prevention and control of trafficking in human organs and tissues" was published on April 26 2003 (C100/27).
