This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The Danish ministry of health is considering the introduction of screening for the hepatitis B virus (HBV) in pregnant women. In response to a letter from the parliamentary health committee, health minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said that the ministry would have finished assessing proposals put forward by the state serum institute for a national screening project. He added that the cost of the project was likely to cost DKr2m ($290,000), twice amount quoted by the parliamentary health committee. Some 10-20 children are born annually in Denmark with chronic hepatitis B, from which a quarter will die.
