Executive Summary
The Spanish ministry of health and consumer affairs is aiming to set up a breast implants register by the end of 2003. The initiative is in response to recent EU recommendations on ways of better regulating the technology, by upgrading the risk category of the products (see Clinica Nos 1047, p 3 and 1046, p 4). Health minister Ana Pastor said that the early launch of the project would be facilitated by a registration card system launched in 1996. The register will record the full details of each case, both with regard to the patient, the products used and the medical personnel involved.
