This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The Irish government has confirmed plans to establish a national network of specialist breast cancer units, as recommended by the National Cancer Forum in its report on the development of services for symptomatic breast disease. The report recommends that each centre cover a population of 250,000-300,000. They would provide integrated pathology, radiology and surgery services, and would each be expected to treat a minimum of 100 new primary breast cancer cases per year.
