The amended EU Directive setting standards of quality and safety for the collection, testing, processing, storage and distribution of human blood and blood components has been published in the Official Journal of the European Communities of February 8 2003. This directive covers blood and its components only; a separate directive on devices containing human blood and plasma was published on December 13 2000 and amended (due to an error in the drafting), on January 1, 2002.
