Executive Summary
The University of El Salvador today (February 24 2003) opened a research centre specialising in biomedicine, clinical medicine and public health. The Centre for Research and Development in Health, based in the capital, San Salvador, is being launched with the aim of setting up a multinational research network aimed at tackling some of the most pressing healthcare needs in the Americas, including infant and maternal mortality and AIDS. The Health Research System will be developed with support from Brazil's Oswaldo Cruz foundation, Cuba's National Center for Research, the Carolina Foundation, Spain's Carlos III foundation, and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO).
