Executive Summary
The 23rd Austrian state prize for innovation has been awarded this year to CNSystems Medizintechnik, which manufactures non-invasive, diagnostic monitoring systems. Federal minister for the economy and employment Martin Bartenstein granted the prize in recognition of the Graz company's Task Force Monitor. The product records haemodynamic parameters, including heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, blood pressure, total peripheral resistance, baroreceptor reflex sensitivity, and vagal and sympathetic tone without discomfort to the patient. All parameters are recorded in real time and beat-to-beat and are displayed both as signals and numeric values. The product is also used by NASA to monitor astronauts in flight, says CNSystems.
