PUBLICATIONS - New from Clinica Reports - Commercial Opportunities for Biochips and Microarrays

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

How many people can you fit in a bus? In 2002 the record stood at 110 people, which was achieved in London in October 2000. A simpler question might appear to be: "How many laboratories can you fit on a bus?" The obvious answer would be somewhere in the region of one or two, but in 2002 the answer is literally thousands. This is because operations that a mere decade ago would have been performed using large, labour intensive technologies have now been miniaturised so that they can be performed on a platform not much bigger than the size of a postage stamp. These miniaturised technologies are called biochips and microarrays.
