Executive Summary
Radiologists moving from using a film-based imaging environment to digital-based picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) are showing significant improvements in efficiency, says a study presented last month at the Radiological Society of North America in Chicago. Indeed changing from a barcode to a paperless environment could save up to 19 seconds a case, said lead author, Dr Jonathan Mates. For a radiology department doing 200 cases a day, this could lead to a total saving of 60 minutes.
