Executive Summary
The European Commission steering group that is working on the report on the competitiveness of the medical device industry is holding its next meeting on November 15 to review comments that have been made on the first draft report. The purpose of this E100,000 ($116,000) study is to gather data in relation to economic and industrial features of the medical devices industry in Europe, the impact on health and public expenditure, and the global competitiveness of the European medical devices industry. This study was recognised as being urgently needed in the context of the five-year review of the Medical Devices Directive and the Commission has made it clear that it now wishes to set a precedent with this study, ensuring that its data-collection initiatives remain in place for future information and analysis.
