Growing incompatibility between MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and implants?
This article was originally published in Clinica
Executive Summary
Increasingly high-strength MRI machines that are being developed to offer greatly enhanced imaging for serious diseases such as cancer may pose a serious risk to patients with medical implants. Further investigation is needed urgently to see if there is a real risk that high-Tesla MRI machines could cause implants to overheat, dislodge or malfunction with potentially life-threatening consequences.
