Executive Summary
Pedro Chequer is the new director of the Brazilian health ministry's STDs and AIDS programme, a central role in the management of an increasingly important resourcing area. He replaces Alexandre Grangeiro. His appointment by the health ministry comes at a time of renewed impetus to bolster this area of care, notably with regard to diagnostic capacity and national production of reagents (see this issue, page 10). Mr Chequer gained expertise in programme management with UNAids, most recently as representative for Brazil, and previously for Russia, Mozambique and the southern cone region of Latin America.
