Roche funds screening services on South African hospital train:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Cancer screening and preventive diabetes testing are being added to the range of services provided on South Africa's Phelophepa Healthcare Train, thanks to a "substantial" increase in sponsorship funding by Roche. Screening for breast cancer and type-2 diabetes in particular will fit in well with the train's biannual, week-long visits to each of the locations it covers. The train does not provide ongoing care, but refers cases to the relevant hospitals. Since its launch 10 years ago, it has provided primary healthcare cover to around seven million people in regions with inadequate access to medical services. Roche is the Phelophepa's leading sponsor outside South Africa.
