Executive Summary

The British Heart Foundation has appointed Peter Weissberg as medical director, effective at the end of 2004. He succeeds Sir Charles George, who is joining the British Medical Association as president after a 5-year tenure with the BHF. He will work in a dual capacity until the end of the year. Professor Weissberg has served with the BHF since 1994, when he was elected chair of cardiovascular medicine. His research has focused on the cell and molecular biology of atherosclerosis, and in recent years, he has been developing new clinical imaging techniques to study atherosclerosis in patients with cerebrovascular disease.
