The US Wheelchair Foundation is preparing to deliver next week the first 200 of a consignment of almost 1,800 wheelchairs to two charities in the Colombian capital, Bogota. Since its establishment in 2000, the Danville, California not-for-profit organisation has delivered more than 225,000 wheelchairs to around 120 countries, and currently provides some 10,000 a month worldwide. It aims to reach the one million mark within the next five years. An estimated 100 million physically disabled people worldwide do not have access to a wheelchair, says the WF.
