Executive Summary
CAS Medical Systems has received a US grant to support the development of a new generation of automated noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) monitors that are able to compensate for arterial stiffness. Conventional automated NIBP monitors rely on an oscillometric method, which is susceptible to error in certain clinical circumstances, particularly in elderly patients with stiff arteries due to atherosclerosis, explained the Branford, Connecticut firm. CAS Medical plans to use the grant, from the National Institutes of Health, to develop new NIBP algorithms that can correct the error caused by arterial stiffness.
