Executive Summary
Haemonetics has received US FDA 510(k) clearance for a redesigned version of its cardioPAT surgical blood salvage system, which allows surgeons to recover blood lost by a cardiovascular surgery patient during and after their operation, and make the blood available for transfusion back to the patient. The product was originally cleared in January 2005, but Haemonetics decided to postpone its full market release until it had upgraded it with technological improvements that had been identified as necessary during early customer trials. The Braintree, Massachusetts firm said that cardioPAT's market release remains on track for early 2006.
