Executive Summary
The US FDA has approved the first blood test that screens for the presence of West Nile virus (WNV) in potential donors of blood, organs, cells and tissues. The Procleix WNV assay, developed by Gen-Probe and marketed by Chiron, detects viral RNA and DNA during the very early stages of infection, before it would show up on an immunodiagnostic test.
