New Zealand developing guidelines for human embryonic stem cell research:

Executive Summary
New Zealand is inviting submissions from the public on proposed guidelines for research using imported human embryonic stem cells. The objective of the guidelines is to establish appropriate restrictions for research that would satisfy researchers, ethics committees and the public. Current legislation - the Human Assisted Reproductive Technology Act 2004- does not cover use of embryonic stem cells for non-reproductive research and, as yet, such research is not undertaken in New Zealand. The deadline for submissions is March 3 2006.
