Executive Summary
Zimmer will cease manufacturing orthopaedic products at Centerpulse's facility in Austin, Texas, by the end of 2005. Zimmer will transfer the Austin activities of the recently acquired Swiss firm to other sites in Warsaw, Indiana (where the orthopaedics giant is based), Wintherthur, Switzerland, and Ponce, Puerto Rico. About 550 employees in Austin will be affected, 340 of whom are involved in manufacturing. A small number will be offered transfers, Zimmer said. A smaller orthobiologics facility will remain in Austin.
