The World Health Organization has appointed Samlee Plianbangchang as regional director for the South-East Asia region, effective from March 1 2004. Dr Plianbangchang succeeds Dr Uton Muchtar Rafei, who served since 1994. WHO has also re-appointed Shigeru Omi for a second five-year term as of 1 February 2004.
