Scotland has reported a significant rise in the number of revascularisation procedures. NHS Scotland performed 7,200 coronary artery bypass grafts and coronary angioplasties in 2004-05, which is up 6.3% annually, from 6,780. Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health has improved, according to the latest diagnosis and coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke (CVD) mortality rates. CHD mortality fell 7.3% across the general population between 2003 and 2004, to 139.4 per 100,000. Among the under-75s, the fall was 9.4%. The rate of new CHD diagnoses fell by 5.1% to 314 per 100,000. CVD mortality fell 6.2% over the same period, to 74.2 per 100,000 and 9.6% (to 22.5 per 100,000) among the under-75s. There was a 5.6% fall in the rate of new CVD diagnoses.
