Argentina tackles hidden hypertension under-monitoring:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

More than 15,000 pharmacies across Argentina are to provide a free blood pressure monitoring service, as part of a national awareness campaign. Around 10 million people in Argentina have high blood pressure, yet around a half are not aware of their condition, according to the national pharmaceutical confederation (COFA), which is co-ordinating the initiative through its member pharmacists. COFA is to publish the results of the programme, which was due to be launched on October 12, to mark national blood pressure monitoring day. Hypertension is the main risk factor in the development of cardiovascular disease (which is the leading cause of death in Argentina) and affects one in four adults and around a half of all people aged over 60, says COFA.
