Executive Summary
Despite the introduction of a national screening programme throughout France for breast cancer, uptake has been slow. Now, the national cancer institute is organising a campaign to increase uptake; only 37% of the eligible 8 million women aged between 50 and 74 took up the offer of biennial screening in 2004. The aim of the institute is to achieve take-up rates of: 50% in 2005; 60% in 2006; and 70% thereafter.
