Guidant warns doctors to stop implanting additional ICDs & CRT-Ds

Executive Summary

Guidant has written to doctors warning them of a risk that a switch may become stuck in the closed position in certain of its heart rhythm management implantable devices. The company recommends doctors cease implanting the devices, as a precautionary measure, following four confirmed reports of the fault, and a fifth suspected occurrence. No patient injuries have occurred, although in the four confirmed fault reports, the devices were replaced.
