Executive Summary
Women's health imaging firm Hologic has agreed to acquire Fischer Imaging's intellectual property in the field of mammography. The Bedford, Massachusetts-based acquirer will pay $32m in cash for technology including Fischer Imaging's SenoScan digital mammography and MammoTest stereotactic breast biopsy system. Cash-strapped Fischer Imaging, which settled litigation over mammography technology with Hologic in 2002, admitted in May that there was substantial doubt over whether it could continue as a going concern. It has struggled to bring SenoScan up to the standard needed to establish a position in the emerging digital mammography market.
