SurModics invests in stroke device developer ThermopeutiX

Executive Summary
SurModics, the Minneapolis, Minnesota specialist in surface modification technologies, has announced an investment and licensing deal with ThermopeutiX. It has invested $1m in the San Diego, California start-up, which was founded by Dr Ron Solar to develop catheter-based systems to treat vascular and neurovascular diseases such as stroke. Dr Solar was also involved in establishing companies like Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, SciMed Life Systems and Versaflex Delivery Systems, which were sold to Guidant, Boston Scientific and Medtronic, respectively.
