Brazil urged to extend tariff cuts to medical devices

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Brazil has come under renewed pressure to lower taxes and tariffs on medical devices, after approving fiscal cuts that will result in an 11% drop in the OTC price of over 1,000 medicinal products. The No Taxes on Drugs and Devices Initiative (NtDDi), a Johannesburg, South Africa-based pressure group, welcomed the move, but is urging the government to go further and improve access to medical devices, as well as medicines, by cutting import duty. This, says the group, is needed to increase the Brazilian 186 million population's access to essential healthcare products.
