Executive Summary
This month saw another six UK National Health Service trusts gain foundation status, bringing the total to 31. The government remains committed to ensuring that all trusts - some 300 - will be eligible to apply for foundation status by 2008, but in their way stand significant commercial and tariff-related problems. While some have surfaced in the form of serious financial management issues for the new foundation trusts themselves, the issues also have significant repercussions for the medical technology industry (see Clinica No 1150, p 7).
