Executive Summary
A coherent policy on patient mobility in the EU is needed as a matter of urgency. That is the thrust of an own-initiative report on patient mobility, drafted by UK MEP John Bowis and due for adoption by the European Parliament's ENVI Committee on April 26. It will be ready for further adoption in a plenary session on June 1. Mr Bowis wants a separate Commission proposal on this subject rather than for it to be handled within the proposed directive on service, which is no longer progressing and could be ditched. The MEP is calling for a clear timetable for action and for systematic collection of data on existing cross-border movement of patients.
