Executive Summary
A carefully tailored combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy is the best strategy for treating cancer. So agreed experts across the two fields, at the end of the first International Chemo/Radiotherapy Symposium, held in Elche (Alicante) last month. The event was hosted by Spain's medical oncology (SEOM), radiotherapeutic oncology (AERO) and cancer research (ASEICA) societies, with a view to developing optimal cancer care strategies. Careful dosification and monitoring is crucial to achieving the successes that combination therapies have demonstrated in improving cure rates and minimising damage to organ function and tissue, said AERO president Dr Manuel de las Heras.
