Executive Summary
More than 70% of the 178 hospitalised cases of dengue infection in East Timor had clinical features compatible with dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF), the World Health Organization reported on February 10. The remainder were diagnosed as suspected dengue fever - ie the less virulent form of the disease - using WHO standard case definitions. The case fatality ratio has decreased since the beginning of the outbreak, but last stood at 9%, at 16 deaths.
