Executive Summary
East Timor is on a state of alert after a high proportion of victims in a new dengue outbreak are believed to have the more serious form of the disease - dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF). At February 3, the World Health Organization reported that 61 of the 95 cases recorded since the beginning of that week had presented with symptoms compatible with DHF. There had been 11 deaths, which equates to an 11.6% fatality ratio. Dengue had been reported in five districts, including Dili, with some 90% of cases.
