Executive Summary
Emergency oxygen systems with integral pressure regulators manufactured by the now defunct SOS Ltd and Medical Gas Services are being removed from use in the UK, in light of a risk of fire or explosion. Following two documented incidents where the regulator ignited as it was being turned on, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) believes that the design of the integral regulator involved is "inappropriate". SOS and Medical Gas Services (Bagillt, North Wales) are both in liquidation; their assets have been acquired by Medical Gas Solutions. Queries are being handled by the British Compressed Gases Association (Wallingford, Oxford).
