UK NHS (National Health Service) gets another five foundation hospitals

Executive Summary

Five of the latest batch of nine UK hospitals that had applied for foundation status have been approved, in a move that is being criticised as showing flaws in the programme, while being welcomed by government as proof of its faster investment in new facilities. It brings the total number of foundation trusts to 25. These latest nine trusts were the first batch of a second wave of applications, with a further 11 being considered for authorisation in April 2005.
