Executive Summary
The UK DoH has approved the applications of 17 NHS trusts for conversion to foundation (FT) status. They have been forwarded to the regulator Monitor for their authorisation. An undisclosed number are currently applying under wave 4 of the programme, the DoH said, while a further eight (wave 5) have been earmarked to enter the application process, with their approval scheduled for the last quarter of 2007. The DoH has announced its commitment to converting the entire NHS to FT status (see Clinica No 1237, p 10) and has set a target to establish 100 FTs by the end of 2007; there are currently 54.
