Brazil has invested R$7m (US$3.3m) in upgrading a healthcare centre in Maceio, Alagoas state, to establish a CACON high-complexity oncology unit. The new radiotherapy, surgery and other facilities will be used to manage initially around 1,000 cases of cancer a year. 2,230 cases are recorded annually across Alagoas state.
