German research minister (BMBF) Annette Schavan unveiled Germany's two new regenerative medicine centres at the opening ceremony of Medica 2006. Staff at centres in Leipzig and Berlin will seek to develop tissue therapies. Both centres will receive BMBF funding of E15m ($19.4m) over the next four years. The minister also awarded prize money totalling E12.3m to 13 cost-effective medtech R&D projects that advance patient care, at what turned out to be the best attended Medica exhibition on record.
